Caring for Boxers in Kolkata
Simple summer routineBoxers have a slightly shortened muzzle, so a straightforward routine keeps them comfortable. Take walks in the early morning and evening through the warmer months, keep water and shade available, and let the dog set the pace on warm days. A fan or cool room indoors is worth having in peak summer, and the short coat needs almost no grooming otherwise.

The family dog with a caveat
Boxers are among the best-natured dogs we sell. They stay puppyish for three or four years, they adore children, and they are genuinely funny to live with.
The caveats are honest ones: a shortened muzzle that makes hot weather harder work, a higher-than-average cancer rate, and a lifespan of ten to twelve years rather than fourteen. None of that is a reason to avoid the breed — but you should know it before you commit.
Boxer questions
How much does a Boxer puppy cost in Kolkata?
A vaccinated Boxer puppy costs ₹20,000–₹30,000 in Kolkata as of August 2026. Puppies from health-screened parents with KCI papers sit at the upper end. Given the breed's cardiac conditions, a screened line is worth paying for.
Are Boxers good with children?
Among the best of any breed. They are patient, playful and tolerant of handling, and they stay puppyish for three or four years. The caution is size and enthusiasm rather than temperament — a bouncing 30 kg Boxer can flatten a small child without any ill intent.
Can a Boxer live in an apartment?
Yes, with real daily exercise. They are calm indoors once worked and the short coat needs almost nothing. They are also poor at being left alone — Boxers are intensely people-oriented and a Boxer alone for eleven hours becomes destructive.
How do I look after a Boxer in Kolkata summers?
Walks in the early morning and evening from March to October, water always available, and let the dog set the pace on warm days. The slightly shortened muzzle makes cooling less efficient than in a Labrador, so stop play before the dog wants to. A fan or cool room helps in peak summer.
How much exercise does a Boxer need?
An hour a day, ideally split, with room to actually run rather than just walk. They are athletic and playful well into adulthood. Mental work helps too — Boxers get bored and boredom is what produces the chewing.
How much grooming does a Boxer need?
Almost none. A rubber mitt once a week for the short coat, which sheds moderately year-round. Check the facial wrinkles occasionally and keep them dry during monsoon. No clipping, no professional grooming required.
What health issues are common in Boxers?
Boxer cardiomyopathy and aortic stenosis are the serious ones — ask whether the parents have had cardiac screening. The breed also carries a higher lifetime cancer incidence than most, and hip dysplasia occurs. Lifespan is ten to twelve years, shorter than many breeds this size.
What should I feed a Boxer?
A large-breed formula, three meals to four months then twice daily. Budget ₹3,000–₹4,500 a month once grown. Boxers can be prone to gas and sensitive digestion, so change foods gradually over a week rather than abruptly.
Are Boxers easy to train?
They are intelligent and eager but genuinely exuberant, and they mature slowly — expect adolescent behaviour until around three. Short, upbeat, reward-based sessions work far better than repetition. Teaching a calm greeting early saves years of jumping.
What vaccinations and papers come with a Boxer puppy?
DHPPi at six to eight weeks, boosters at ten to twelve and fourteen to sixteen weeks, anti-rabies from twelve weeks, deworming from two weeks — all on a card with dates and batch numbers. KCI registration where the pedigree qualifies, with the registration paperwork following after purchase.
