Local things worth knowing
- IIT Kharagpur campus quarters have their own rules on keeping animals, and they vary by category of housing. Check what applies to your quarters before committing to a breed rather than after the puppy has arrived.
- The campus itself is the best walking in Kharagpur by a distance — shaded roads, low traffic and a lot of open ground. Town-side lanes around Golbazar and Nimpura are the opposite.
- Kharagpur Municipality issues the pet licence for town addresses. Campus residents should ask the estate office which route applies to them, as the two are handled differently.
- The railway township areas are laid out with more open ground than most West Bengal towns of this size, which makes a larger breed considerably easier to keep here than the population figure would suggest.
