Dalmatian puppies in Kolkata

Dalmatian puppies cost ₹15,000–₹28,000 in Kolkata as of August 2026. The spotted coat is unmistakable and the short single coat suits Bengal well — but this is a genuine athlete that needs a real hour of exercise a day, and it rewards an active owner more than a quiet one.

Caring for Dalmatians in Kolkata

Easy-care coat

One of the more straightforward large breeds to keep here. The short single coat carries no undercoat, so it sheds heat efficiently and needs nothing more than a rubber mitt twice a week — though it sheds those fine white hairs year-round and they show on dark furniture. Walks belong to the early morning and after dark through the warmer months, which suits a dog that wants to run properly rather than amble. Keep water available and let the dog set the pace on hot afternoons.

Health risks in India

  • Congenital deafness — ask whether the litter has been BAER-tested
  • Urinary stones: Dalmatians need constant water and a suitable diet
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Skin allergies, which show readily on the pale coat

An athlete first, a spotted dog second

Dalmatians were bred to run alongside carriages for miles at a time, and that is still what the body is built for. Owners who match that — a proper morning run, a long evening walk, something to think about in between — get a wonderfully affectionate, funny, sociable dog.

Owners who treat them as a good-looking companion breed get a bored athlete, and a bored athlete finds its own entertainment.

The two health questions to ask

Deafness. Ask whether the litter has been BAER-tested. It is a simple hearing test and the breed genuinely needs it. A deaf Dalmatian can live a happy life with a committed owner, but you should know before you buy, not after.

Urinary stones. Dalmatians metabolise purines unusually, which makes stones more likely than in other breeds. Constant fresh water and a sensible diet manage it well. Worth a conversation with your vet in the first month.

Living with the coat

The short white coat is easy — no clipping, no matting, a rubber mitt twice a week. What it does do is shed constantly, and the hairs are stiff enough to work into fabric. Most owners settle on a lint roller by the door and stop thinking about it.

Dalmatian questions

How much does a Dalmatian puppy cost in Kolkata?

A vaccinated Dalmatian puppy costs ₹15,000–₹28,000 in Kolkata as of August 2026. Well-marked puppies from screened parents sit at the upper end. Because deafness runs in the breed, a puppy from a BAER-tested litter is worth paying more for.

Are Dalmatians good family dogs?

With an active family, yes — they are affectionate, playful and sociable. The caveat is energy rather than temperament: an under-exercised Dalmatian becomes restless and destructive, and that is what leads to most rehoming. They suit households that walk and run properly every day.

Can a Dalmatian live in a Kolkata flat?

It is not our first suggestion. They are large, high-energy and need real running space. A Dalmatian in a flat can work if the owner commits to an hour of proper exercise daily without exception, but a Labrador or Beagle is a far easier fit for apartment life.

Why are Dalmatians prone to deafness?

The gene that produces the white coat and spotted pattern is linked to inner-ear development, so congenital deafness is more common in this breed than most. Responsible breeders BAER-test litters. Ask directly, and treat a breeder who has not heard of the test as a warning sign.

How much do Dalmatians shed?

Heavily and year-round. The hairs are short, fine, stiff and white, and they weave into fabric. A rubber grooming mitt twice a week helps a great deal, but anyone house-proud about dark upholstery should know this before committing.

What should I feed a Dalmatian?

Dalmatians process purines differently from other breeds, which makes them prone to urinary stones. Avoid organ meat and very high-purine foods, keep fresh water available at all times, and ask your vet about a suitable diet. Budget ₹3,000–₹4,500 a month once grown.

Are Dalmatians easy to train?

They are intelligent and learn quickly, but they bore fast and were bred to work alongside horses rather than take close direction. Short, varied, reward-based sessions work best. They are not a good first dog for someone new to training.

What vaccinations does a Dalmatian puppy need?

The standard Indian schedule: DHPPi at six to eight weeks, boosters at ten to twelve and fourteen to sixteen weeks, anti-rabies from twelve weeks, and deworming from two weeks. Every puppy leaves with a vaccination card showing dates and batch numbers.

Do you deliver Dalmatian puppies outside Kolkata?
